We probably go here (the one in San Francisco) more than any other restaurant...because it's good value and always consistently good food. We are not talking award winning food here...but what they do they do very well. We always get the berengena frita with satsiki to start (bit cheeky of them to charge $3 for this satsiki....but you have to have it) and the local filet steak with garlic. It's a huge place too with lots of indoor and outdoor seating, so if you want AC and/or to avoid loud people/kids you can get away pretty well. Anyway, I feel strongly about writing this review because last night we walked out (after paying) in disgust. So please take note Mr. Owner. The service was so bad not only did it drive me insane (...I know...quite common for a non-local) but also my usually placid wife who accompanied me to the till to explain our anger. Scenario: 3 waiters, no more than 10 customers; the 3 waiters working in our area, and not one would come to our table to take our money. One acknowledged us then promptly went and spoke to a table and forgot about us, and all the while we were gesturing to another waiter to help who was just standing there doing absolutely nothing and he kept looking at us, would not move and kept ignoring us. Please don't think this happened in the space of seconds...it became so embarassing that we were being looked at and ignored that I had to get up and go to pay in the kitchen area. Even after many years...they didn't see it coming...but the dinosaurs became extinct...wake up please!
This is one of Panama's old favourites serving up great steaks amongst other things. The deep fried berenjena (aubergine/eggplant) with tzatziki are a particularly good way to start off the proceedings. Follow this with the filet steak rubbed (and inserted) with garlic and you won't have much room left for desert. I particularly like the moussaka which the Greek owners do very well if I'm not in the mood for steak. Never a problem getting a table as the place is big. Service is 'ok'...prices are very reasonable. Not worth cooking at home when you have this place.
