Blue Taphouse (Casco Antiguo)
We went in the afternoon for drinks and some small appetizers (try the bacon wrapped dates), and we really enjoyed ourselves. As the place was getting full, service by Raul did not slow down once, really happy to be attended by him. The Lemondrop and Mexican Lager were very good.
Beat Burger Punto
When I heard that the No Joke burger had qualified into the top 6 finalists for Burger Week, I had to try it. The place was jam packed for a Tuesday night, and it took about 45 minutes to get our burgers. I was way too hungry to check the burger, but had noticed about halfway through that they forgot to add the bacon :( The burger had a good taste to it, I enjoyed the crunchy quinoa and fried onions, the bread held together well, but that was about it. Really not worth waiting 45 minutes for.
The Strangers Club
I was really looking forward to trying La Corte Culebra burger ever since they announced it for Burger Week, and we finally got to try the burger. Definitely worth the wait, and the burger is just soooo good, juicy, and very messy. Make sure to call and reserve before you go, when we arrived nearly all the tables were reserved and we got lucky that there was a table open for walk ins.
Bottle Alley
The "Dorita G" burger participating in Burger Week is a must try, for sure. I like how they do the favor of flattening the bread and cutting it in half, it makes it so much easier to eat :) All the flavors listed are there, I just wish they were a bit more generous on the onions soaked in saril, I really enjoyed that addition to the burger. The spice from the pepper jack cheese was a perfect touch to it as well. In terms of service, we didn't worry about forming a long line or waiting forever for the burgers to arrive, in fact they delivered straight from kitchen to table, nice and hot. Definitely a strong contender.
Muh Panamá
We tried “La Rookie” burger for Burger Week, and I really enjoyed it. The burger was served in a timely manner, and it was hot and fresh. Everything had flavor, the meat, thick pieces of bacon, and my favorite part was the cheese sauce. They advertised the cheese saying it has chorizo, but we noticed a peanut flavor to it and when we asked about it, we were told they added peanut sauce as well. Love it. The place is small, and it was very busy when we went, but we didn’t have to wait long for the burgers which was a huge plus. Would definitely recommend to try their burger here.
El Republicano
We went to try their burger participating in Burger Week, La Revolucionaria, but sadly there wasn’t anything really revolutionary about it. The burgers arrived at room temperature, and at first bite it just tasted like a regular hamburger, nothing stood out, not even the au jus dip. I love the au jus concept though, you don’t see that a lot here in Panama. I would have to say my favorite part about the burger is the toasted prosciutto. Their best burger by far to me is still La Embajadora.
Meze
A lovely greek experience right in the middle of the city. We were fortunate enough to have won a dinner through a contest, and we were set up to have dinner on a Monday night, which by all means was very busy. We had cold starters, Tzatziki and an octopus appetizer, and we also had Spanakopita which is a spinach/feta filled pastry. Highly recommended, the tzatziki was too good we ordered two rounds. Prices are very reasonable, so it's perfect for any kind of setting. Service was good, staff was friendly, our meals came out on time and there wasn't a mixup, but I do agree with the other reviews, that they need to sharpen their knowledge on the menu. Definitley coming back, for sure.
Banh Mi
I am absolutely in love with Banh Mi's BBQ Beef, it's so difficult to decide whether I want it in a sandwich, rice bowl or vermicelli bowl. I had it in the rice bowl today, and it was just awesome. They put just the right amount of ingredients proportional to the rice/vermicelli bowl so you're not left with a ton of rice. I definitley recommend this place!
