Cantina del Tigre
Cantina del Tigre was recently voted one of the top restaurants in Latin America so it was on my list to try. This is Panamanian fusion food, fresh and beautifully presented and all the dishes have the most incredible combination of flavours that you can't quite put your finger. The idea is to share like Tapas but sadly, some of the portions were very small. The restaurant is tucked away in San Francisco area of town and was very busy even at 7:00pm. The atmosphere lively and jolly (too loud outside), staff and service quite good but the ambiance is somewhat rough and ready. A little overpriced for what it was.
Madre Cucina Italiana (Casco Antiguo)
Disappointing experience. Dreadful pizza, overly priced and with very loud music and noise that you could hardly hear the conversation. When this restaurant first opened, the pizzas were good and at a reasonable price. But like many restaurants in Panama, sadly, the standards have dropped dramatically. The prosciutto was such bad quality I was just pulling of loads of fat. I consider $25.00 for a pizza to be absolutely ridiculous. We won't be going back.
Maharaja
Possibly the worst restaurant we ever ate at in 20 years in Panama. The food was beyond awful (being British, we do know quite a lot about Indian food and this wasn't anywhere close to good!). Ambiance is also dreadful and the music so loud you could not hear yourself think, let alone speak! The staff were absolutely lovely and the dancer was very cute. The best part about it was the Gin and Tonic!
Madre Cucina Italiana (Casco Antiguo)
Huge congratulations to Madre Cocina for a wonderful, Covid safe dining experience. We ate there last night and were lucky enough to sit outside in Plaza Hererra under the stars. The pizza was absolutely the best we have ever eaten in Panama with a deliciously crispy, crunchy light base and fresh, tasty toppings. Covid-19 safety protocols were second to none and we had excellent service. Nothing was too much trouble, the staff were fantastic. We felt very safe and had an enjoyable (almost normal) night out together. We highly encourage people to support the restaurants that have survived the Pandemic so far in Panama.
Muh Panamá
We decided to give Muh Panama City a try after visiting their Food truck at Buenaventura where we had very tasty Argentinian sausages. The decor is clean and modern, bookings seem to be only online with Degusta and when we booked, we seemed to qualify for a 40% discount. With a refreshingly simplistic menu, succulent cuts of beef, deliciously different sausages and tasty side dishes, this was a winner with our group.
Spice Market
Nice modern ambiance and pleasant enough staff, but very disappointing, overpriced food. We wanted to try somewhere completely new as were fed up of all the old haunts When we saw some 5* reviews on Degusta we decided to go. We started with the mixed tacos and Vietnamese spring rolls with Prawns. The tacos were pretty unexciting and the spring rolls were packed to overflowing with lettuce and vegetables but it was hard going to find any prawns. Main Course: Mongolian Beef and Ginger Chicken. Both dishes were timid on the spices and too heavy on the MSG. We won't be going back.
