Buena Pizza Social Club
As a born, raised and educated in New York, New Yorker I can highly recommend this place for pizza. My wife and I went there today from El Valle. It was well worth the two hour detour back to Panama City. The views are spectacular! The cross breeze from the open windows made the temperature in the social club very pleasant. The Classic pizza of sauce and cheese was great. The ratio of cheese to sauce was exactly where it should be. The crust was thin, crispy where it needed to be and soft where is needed to be. The slices were cut throug properly! The fold was held all the way to the tip of the slice. The tip did not droop. The upgrade to that pizza is their very of the Margherita, with sauce, sliced cherry tomatoes, parm, and stracciatella. This one to me was the better if the two. The pies are not small like the ones offered in Panama City. They are close to 15 inches in diameter, with 8 slices. I'm a big eater and I could only get down 6 slices. And their Nutella and marshmallow pizza is a delish way to end the meal with something sweet. The service is fast and the place is clean. Easy parking as well. Once the roads to the interior out of Panama City are finished, I can see making the Buena Pizza Social Club a reason for a nice afternoon road trip.
La Divina Commedia (El Valle)
The dining experience was great at La Divina Commedia! It starts with the excellent service and quirky but quaint outdoor seating area. Then the pizzas! I had the capressa pizza with a slight change form Sliced tomatoes to halved cherry tomatoes. The crust was crispy but with a good chew and taste. The sauce was tangy and tomatoes with the right amount of cheese and not skimpy on the fresh torn basil leaves. The pizza was worth the drive from the city! The cappuccino arrived as requested; scalding hot and tasted great. I hope to have a reason to go back to El Valle so I can try some other dishes there.
Tomahawk
Tomahawk is an outdoor BBQ and Burger joint situated on the perimeter of a car wash. Going there for lunch in the heat is not the best idea. It is hot! They offer steaks and burgers. Their meat is domestic and at first bite you can tell. It is tough. I had the skirt steak. It looked great on the plate. But immediately, as the fork went in, I knew this was not going to be an easy chew. The taste was very good, seasoned and cooked very nicely. The patacones were also very well prepared. I may go back to try a burger or possibly another type of steak.
Luna Rossa
Luna Rossa is a must while in Coronado. The food is always top notch. The portions are ample and the food served is always good. The Greek Salad was big and fresh with the right amount amount of crumbled feta cheese and well dressed. The corvina with fennel sauce was also very good.
La Tasca de Triana
I had the breakfast buffet, It was the basics. Scrambled eggs, carimañolas, fruit etc. I believe it should have been open past 10:00am considering it was on Saturday and El Valle is not a business oriented hotel.
O`Pedros
While spending the weekend in Los Madarinos My wife and I decided to stay close and try O'Pedros for lunch. She ordered the Caesar Salad with chicken and I had the fish and chips. The fish was excellent! The chips, not so good. The portion size was fantastic. The fish was flaky and the batter was crunchy. I enjoyed that meal.
Buon Appetito
Quaint little restaurant in El Valle. Very few tables. The food is very good. Three basic items. Tagliatelle, pizza, and calzones. The sauces and toppings are what vary. The tagliatelle was al dente and the pesto sauce was spot on. The pizza I ordered, Pompeii, was great. Nice wood char and crisp edges. I loved it.
Rincón de los Camisones.
Los Camisones is a nice casual restaurant between Coronado and Santa Clara. The menu is quite extensive and mostly everything I have eaten there has been quite good. This past visit was no exception. I ordered the Greek salad to start. The salad was the only plate that I can actually say was mediocre. Not cold enough and the dressing was lacking any real flavor. Los Camisones had a special of fried fresh whole sardines that I ordered out of curiosity. I have never seen fresh sardines offered so I ordered them Five large whole sardines came on a plate. They were delicious. My main course was the ubiquitous Corvina Al Ajillo. That was good, but its realty hard to screw that up. I would go back for more of the sardines.
Quesos Chela
Quesos Chela is a Panamanian icon. The cheeses, empanadas, breads and chichas have no comparison. Without any doubt and without fail, the empanadas de queso are the best and a must! The crust has a ravioli pasta flavor and the cheese is perfect. There are no bad cheeses there to be found. The service is way better since they imposed a number counter. And the parking will be much better as soon as they finish their new parking area. And it also important to note that Quesos Chela has a decent bathroom to boot; excellent info for the long rides to and from the beaches.
