Rosa Mexicano
Hard to judge this one as it is fairly new and going through growing pains...so I will just do bullet points: 1) Parking service is nice 2) Beautiful well done modern mexicano (although if you sit too close the the cliff divers wall sculpture you may get sprinkled). 3) Margaritas were average (we got the pomegranate) at $6 each they add up. 4) Tableside guacamole is very good (although pricey for guac $9) 5) Queso Fundido is good but again...pricey at $12. 6) The main courses were ok, but nothing to jump up and down over. 7) Best of the evening was the churros, delivered piping hot with 3 dipping sauces. 8) Service was good at the beginning (less crowded) but waiters were scarce when the place filled up. Overall, this is a nice addition to the restaurant scene, but will strictly cater to tourists, yeye, and expats. There are better mexican options out there, better price and better food (such as Cholo's on Calle 50)
Master Bubble Tea
I can't wait to go back...what everyone else says! Calamar, chicken and fries hands down, best in Panama! Tea is as good too! Congrats Mr Bubble Tea
Rinconcito Colombiano
Super! Great Atmosphere and service! HUGE portions! Great drink selection (alcoholic and non-alcoholic).Empanadas are ridiculously good, as is the Sopa de Mariscos, and of course the Colombian Typical food is amazing. Try it for a casual night out (or for a late night snack). You will not be hungry or disappointed afterwards!
Burrito D.F.
Great joint! Fast, good quality made to order food, reasonably priced! Free Margaritas for the chicas 5-7 everyday...what could be better! We'll be back! A LOT!
Barko Bistro Panameño
We had been trying to come here for some time, but always pick the wrong days. First attempt was a Monday (they are closed on Mondays). We finally decided to give it a go on a Saturday, and we were glad we did! Drinks are OUT OF THIS WORLD (although at $8 a pop, be careful). We ordered the following: Almejas - BEST IN PANAMA...for real Ceviche Barko - BEST CEVICHE IN PANAMA...for real we shared the lobster with mariscos which was very good, but for a Gringo from the Northeastern USA, nothing compares to a Maine Lobster...know what I mean. Desert, we shared the Flan de Coco, which was truly outstanding! Overall a 10 star experience, service was great and very attentive...and even asked 1/2 way through if everything was ok...very rare for latin america.
Mediterráneo
Nothing really special to say about this one. My wife and I went on a whim. We just ordered appetizers Ceviche Mixto - fair at best...supermarket variety Scallops - way overcooked, and sauce was burnt Almejas - Nothing special, very small clams Rolls with sausage and manchego - poorly flavored and manchego was nowhere to be found. Scratch this one of my to-do list.
Oliva & Sal
We returned to this restaurant the other night, and have mixed reviews! Our first two visits were superb, but like most restaurants in Panama, after about 6 months open...things take a turn for the worse. 1) Our drinks - Sangria was ok, but the waiter spilled quite a bit on the tablecloth and forks etc and were never cleaned or replaced. The cosmos for the girls were not cosmos, but they both said they were ok...but when the drinks were consumed and depleted, they were never asked if they wanted another...weird 2) Food - The appetizers were very good, we had the carpaccio, pulpo, and the fried brie...the main courses were mixed reviews with the poor dish of the evening being the entrana which was overly salted..but the captain removed it from the bill without even asking, which was very nice and UNUSUAL for Panama.
La Fragata (Viejo)
We have been to this restaurant the past 2 nights simply because it is relatively inexpensive and the food is very good (and the Sangria better). We have just tried the tapas. Stars of the show are the Butifarra (sausage), the cheese and sausage plate (cold), and the big star is the Pulpo Gallega! Almejas (clams) are spot on as well. Small, quiet and older...this place lacks the ambiance of some of the newer chic venues, but if you are looking for something good, fast and different...try it!
Ginza Teppanyaki
It had been years since I had been to Ginza, in fact, the last time there was before the fire (original ginza was completely destroyed about 5-6 years ago). We had decided to go there because Benihana has been going downhill and we love teppanyaki. Prices are VERY HIGH with the average entree in the 25 ballpark. I ordered the Ginza Combination (I believe 27 or 29$). Consisting of shrimp, fish, chicken, steak. The "Show" was very poor. People used to a spectacular Teppanyaki show should not go here...it was in one word...boring. This is not your traditional Teppanyaki. First you get your soup (chicken vegetable...not traditional miso or broth with mushrooms)...then Garlic Bread (Garlic Bread in a Japanese place??)...then a salad with choice of dressings (no Ginger dressing option WTF)...then your meal is cooked...it was cooked well, not great...but everything was OK. Would we go back...probably not, because we have kids, and they didnt even have a kids option.
El Burger Bar (el Cangrejo) BORRADO
Nice burger joint. Good place to take the family or a casual night out with friends. Great option to build your own burger and good selection of sandwiches and apps from the menu. Service was very attentive and speedy. Place was very crowded and they should have allowed seating in the upstairs sports bar.
