I don't know why i've taken so long to write this review, I actually feel bad for taking so long, as this place deserves all the praise it gets. This is by a country mile the best dining experience I have had in Panama. You can see, smell and taste the dedication and thought that goes into every dish. If I had one criticism it would be to work on the drink pairings as I don't think they lived up to the food. A real pleasure to have this treat in Panama and I hope he can maintain the high level he's set.
Fratelli Pizza & Pasta
Disappointing. Pizza undercooked and pasta overcooked, also very little seasoning. There is some serious competition in San Francisco and this doesn't do enough to make me want to return. The service was very good though.
Fina Estampa
Not terrible food, it just shouldn't be priced so ridiculously. U10 Langostinos (approx 10 per pound) can be bought (even during Veda) for around $7.50 per pound. This means that I paid $22 for 4 prawns in garlic which cost them $3, plus of course garnish and accomplimants. I've happily hundreds on meals in the past and felt happy, here I felt bitterly ripped off.
El Caribe
Probably the best food i've had in Panama! completely unpretentious atmosphere serving great food. Highlights were the Jerk Chicken, octopus in Caribbean sauce and the curried goat. Another bonus is its open Sundays!!
Rico Sabor
Very, very average food. Ceviche was hot and main courses were cold. A real shame because I'd heard such good reviews of the place. The young waiter was excellent however. Maybe it was just a bad night for them but I'll never be back to find out.
Lung Fung (Los Angeles)
Breakfasts are great if you get there early. Lunch and dinner not as good as some of the smaller Chinese "restaurants" in el Dorado.
Conos Temakeria
Frozen fish at this price is ridiculous. Ceviche was bland, rice used for the cones was overcooked and had no flavour. The owner was more interested in playing with his phone then talking to customers. If the bill was half the price I would have considered it acceptable- but if you charge that amount you need a good product, which this is not.
Sukhi (Area Bancaria)
Excellent food- fresh authentic and tasty! I just wish it was closer to my office
The Shack
Great place for a Sunday grazing, just make sure you have a good appetite. I had the chilli cheese fries to start and we shared the pulled porks and ribs to follow. The chilli had a good flavour but i would have preferred some home made fries with it. The ribs were excellent, beautifully tender and full of flavour, sadly let down by unseasoned garlic "smashed" potatoes. The pulled pork was very good as well but certainly not in the same league as the ribs. The smoked beans on the side were a little sweet but broke up pigfest nicely. Service was slow but i wasn't in a rush, the beers were cold and I have absolutely no issues with the decor unlike some of the other people on this site, probably because I sat outside. Overall I will definitely be back.
Pizzeria Italia (Tumba Muerto)
Diabolical! I ordered spaghetti carbonara whilst my wiser half chose a pepperoni pizza. The spaghetti was horrendously overcooked and the sauce was cream with cream finished with few lumps of nondescript ham. In a futile attempt to add some flavour into the dish I asked the waitress for some black pepper; I received sawdust and was told they didn't have a pepper mill or any black pepper - this explains a lot. The pizza was marginally better but clearly salt hadn't been bought either as the base lacked any seasoning. As someone involved in the restaurant industry I understand how much a bad review can piss you off but these people need a wake up call. The only plus I can draw from the experience is that the owners son washes cars next door and does a good job at it.
