Sugoi (El Cangrejo)
When I enter a restaurant I review my total experience and ask: Why would I want to return. My answer here is I do not want to return. Food is excellent. Had an Executive Lunch and a Philadelphia roll. Executive Lunch was beef kebab with soup and macaroni. Excellent. The Philadelphia roll was also excellent. However, arrived 5 minutes before 12:00 Noon and told too early - no valet parking until Noon. No place to wait. Typically Panamanian but a big turn off to Americans. Waiter was very good - but only one of him. Kitchen sent one meal out 10 minutes before the other meals. One check had to be returned for the Jubilado discount. So while food is excellent the idea is to have a good meal, good service and relax. This is for me not it..
Aires del Mediterraneo
Found this restaurant by accident. It is new and needs better signage so you can find it. However, once found, itis a delight. Decor is pleasant. Not fancy but comfortable.Table clothes with fair quality paper napkin. Food was excellent and prices extremely reasonable. An entrana of Serrano ham addequate to serve 4 was only $12.00. A perfectly cooked serving of corvina with Mediterraneo rice and salad was only $9.95. The filet mignon steak wrapped in bacon with a mushroom sauce ($11.95)(cooked as ordered), was flavorful and tender enough to cut with your fork. Desserts (NY cheesecake, limon pie. apple pie) were excellent and only $3.50. A bottle of Italian wine of good quality only $22.00. Service was provided by the manager (owner?) and another waitress. Service was very attentive. My water glass was attentively refreshed as it was emptied. The wine glasses were watched and refilled appropriately.
Manabí
I have just returned from enjoying the best daily (except Sunday) breakfast buffet I have had in my nine years in Panama. The buffet is at the Manabi restaurant in the Sortis Hotel. Cost is $10.50 - no jubilado discount Decor is comfortable and bright with a full wall of windows with white light through blinds. It is a large restaurant with various areas providing various atmospheres to sit in, One side overlooks the pool - which is an event in itself. Food dish size is welcoming and will hold all you wish without your feeling they are trying to squeeze how much you eat. Tableware is excellent quality and comfortable to the hand. Table decoration is non-interfering with the ability to hold a conversation. Napkins are full size - large enough to tuck in and catch all spills! The wait help was wonderfully trained and most spoke English. The attention we received was second to none. There is no way service could be improved upon. The kitchen staff kept the food platters refreshed so one did not feel they were not leaving enough for the next person. I add that the person at the Hotel entrance recognized Cherie and myself from the evening we were there for the Meet & Mix and showed us to the restaurant. American style coffee was served immediately and a pot set on the table. We were offered orange juice as soon as we were seated. Water glasses were kept full at all times. The attitude of all we had contact with evidenced a well trained staff which expressed a positive, friendly and outgoing attitude. Even the person sweeping the floor stopped and held the elevator door for us. Finally, the buffet itself. For a breakfast buffet it had all the usual offerings plus many more. It offered multiple choices of fruit, cheese and sliced meats. Included were prosciutto and smoked salmon. Eggs were prepared to order as were the pancakes and waffles. Of course the hot food choices included bacon, sausage and a beef and onion dish. There were other hot dishes with fried vegetables and a wide assortment of potato prepared in different ways. The bread and muffin section offered a wide variety of pastries, muffins and English muffins which you toast yourself. The selection was varied and very tasty. Without reservation I recommend anyone going out for breakfast try the Breakfast Buffet in the restaurant Manabi in the Sortis Hotel. Since I always like to call for directions the Hotel telephone number is 398-8888.
Rino`s
Have not been to Rino's in over a year. This restaurant has a traditional, comfortable decor. The food was very good. Corvina was fresh and tasty. We were there for lunch. The Executive lunch provided very appetizing choices, very adequate quantity and very low price. Wait service was excellent. Water glasses were kept full and whenever a waiter was motioned for they responded. Food service was prompt and our group of six was served almost simultaneously. However, the restaurant had one destructive problem. The men's lavatory was a disaster. Toilet seats were broken as were the doors. Soap dispenser didn't work nor did the towel dispenser - a roll of paper towel was left standing on top of the waste basket. The floor was awash in water. My main thought was I would not bring my wife there for fear of the condition of the women's room. If the management can correct these conditions this would be a restaurant I would recommend to all for good food and relaxed dining.
Tomate y Amor
I dined last night using the American Society of Panama discount. The food and service were first class. The hamburgers were cooked exactly as ordered and I believe the most flavorful in Panama - large enough to take half home. One of us had the "stuffed potato as a side. It was delicious and a meal in itself. The Caesar salad was also well flavored and large enough to serve three. The pasta with eggplant was not "al dente" but was not overcooked.. The tomato sauce was rich and flavorful. One ordered the fillet de res. It was tender and cooked exactly as ordered. The choice of deserts was ample and offered the usual and different. The apple tart was properly warmed, served with ice cream and very tasty. We all had a glass of house wine and found it of good quality. The waiter anticipated our every want and kept the water glasses full. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. W sat near the back where they have a decorative wooded area and running stream. A very plasant setting.I definitely would return, discount or no.
Cafe Chic
A new restaurant with great ambiance, American style background music and excellent attention and service. Food is excellent flavor and attractively served. Prices are quite reasonable as is the price for a glass of wine. This restaurant with its modern European atmosphere, excellent food and pleasing music in the background is a winner.
