New York Bagel Cafe (Antigua Administración)
We came here on the recommendation of a friend living in Panama after we got bored of the hotel breakfast. It's his favorite breakfast spot. I must say, he got this one right! We had a great breakfast; good food, reasonably priced, and quick service. The restaurant was very busy and seemed like most of the people were getting work doing but we were immediately able to sit at the deck outside. One of the best things about New York Bagel is their huge menu and we had no trouble at all in finding something to eat. I got the French Toast with Chocolate chips while my husband got the Western omelette with a side of potatoes. The french toast was made from good thick loaf of challah bread and looked amazing and the omelet was big and fluffy and cooked perfectly. I think anyone that visits Panama needs to make a stop at this fun, loud, and vibrant breakfast restaurant.
Masala
We have had our fair share of Indian food, and this place doesn't make it to the top of our list although it is solid. This place is the best place in town for trying Indian cuisine. Nothing compared to out east or even new york but they do a great job trying. The naan bread is served fresh to your table, but its kind of thin and wimpy. The service at this restaurant was good and friendly and the portions were plentiful. The quality of the food is fine if you enjoy Indian food but considering the great reviews on this website we couldn't help but get a little disappointed. We were expecting it to be authentic and great not just good.
Santos Café
We flew in around 9 p.m. on a Saturday and by the time we checked into our hotel near Uruguay street and we were to tired to get too adventurous or venture out too far to grab a bite to eat. We had the Santos hot dog and a bucket of Panama beer and just relaxed. The hot dog itself was really good and the pairing of the hot dog with the caramelized onions was delightful and unique. The hot dog also came with a side of nachos with melted cheese but we were too full from the hot dog to eat them. Definitely not complaining. Be aware that this place can get busy on weekend nights so I would recommend making this your first stop before venturing out into the wildlife of uruguay street.
Cafe Chic
We are not adventurous eaters by nature so we researched our trip before we got to Cafe Chic and knew we wanted to try this place based on reviews on tripadvisor and degusta. We're budget travelers but we always try to splurge on one or two meals and this was it, if you can even call it splurging because I think prices for dining out are ridiculously low when you compare to other big cities around the world. We went on a Wednesday evening about seven o'clock and when we got there we were seated right away. The service was probably the best we've experienced in Panama and most of all it seemed natural and not the least bit forced or practiced. These people seem to love their jobs and it shows. We ordered the shrimp croquettes, the grilled salmon with the hollandaise sauce, the steak with bernaise sauce and the feta and cucumber smear, and a bottle of wine for dinner. All were fantastic and top notch and cooked exactly as requested. We shared the Chocolate mousse for dessert which was really airy and just spot on.
Crepes & Waffles (Marbella)
As others have stated, this place has good food and is beautifully designed. We went for brunch on a Sunday so it was very crowded. I had the eggs benedict and they were were great. I also got the raspberry juice and was very impressed that the juice was actually made from fresh fruit. Everything on the menu looked really great. Expect to wait, as it seems to be very popular. The atmosphere is appropriate for an upscale breakfast restaurant and prices were lower what I expected. The service was slow but expected given how crowded it was.
Vanille
Vanille is such a treat! Our friend made this discovery of Vanille cupcakes one night after dinner and since then we kept going back for more. We couldn't decide which cupcake to get, so we just ended up getting a dozen. I've never spent so much money on only cupcakes. Their Red Velvet is as good as it gets and there is a variety of flavor & toppings to choose from. Other flavors that we liked included dulce de leche, oreo, carrot and chocolate fudge. The service was fast and polite and this place is great for takeaways or dine-in.
