Perú Chicken (Obarrio)
Perú chicken recently expanded and is much more comfortable than before. The food is as good as always. The Ceviche de pescado was Fresh and plated beautifully. The causa d pollo was confort Food, and the pollo asado is exactly what is expected. Fantastic.
Pizza Verace
Amazing pizzas. So much variety and the quality of the ingredients is top notch. The pies are perfect. This time I had the Margherita withs stracciatella and my wife a pizza with mushrooms and ham. Both were spectacular.
Cantina del Tigre
It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to give a restaurant 5 stars across all three categories, but Cantina del Tigre truly deserves it. From the moment my wife and I stepped in, we knew we were going to be pleased. The server was knowledgeable and honest, explaining that the portion sizes were large enough to share, and that the kitchen times were staggered so that each dish would arrive at the right moment, without overlapping the previous one. The whole fish al carbón was plated beautifully and cooked to perfection—moist and flavorful. The arroz con coco was spectacular. Then the osso buco arrived, also plated wonderfully. I was only able to eat a quarter of the osso buco because I had already devoured most of the fish. The osso buco was tender and absolutely delicious. The flan de café dessert was something my wife liked better than I did, but it was still very good. All in all, there wasn’t a single dish we ate that I could have made better. The portion sizes and the service make Cantina del Tigre a bargain for this quality of food. We’re already looking forward to going back.
CATCH Seafood & Grill
After searching for over three decades, I finally found the perfect fish sandwich today at Catch on Balboa Boutiques in Panama. The sandwich is truly spectacular! Every element is in harmony, with nothing overshadowing the other. The large raisin bread, the fresh cole slaw, tangy tartar sauce, and, of course, the fish—all come together in perfect balance. My wife and I opted for an additional side of cole slaw, which was just as delightful. This sandwich is a real gem.
Pizza Verace
I recently had one of the best authentic Italian-style pizzas I've ever tasted. The crust was incredibly thin, light, and airy, with a flavor that was delightful on its own. I ordered the Margherita Pom D'oro, which featured sliced yellow tomatoes—a surprise, but one that exceeded my expectations. My wife had the 4 Stagioni, and after trying a slice, I can say it was equally impressive. The meal ended on a high note with a dessert made of Nutella and pistachio cream, which alone is worth a visit. The service was excellent—efficient without feeling rushed, and our server was knowledgeable and genuinely pleasant. While the dining room is quite small, with hard surfaces that can amplify the noise level, and the tables are tightly spaced, the overall experience more than made up for it. A great spot for a memorable meal!
Casa Raffaello
Casa Raffaello is a hidden gem of an Italian restaurant. From the owner chef greeting you and describing the specials of the day to the quality of the food. The bruschetta pomodori was as authentic as I remember when I was in Rome. The ribeye steak with tagliatelle tarultufo was very tender and cooked extremely well. I could not have made it any better myself. The tiramisù was also delish. Can't wait to go back and sample other of the selections offered.
Petit París (Punta Pacífica)
My wife ans I went to Petit Paris for dessert after a dinner that did not offer any desserts.. Plenty of choices to choose from. We had one banana crepe and one crepe with Nutella. Both were paired with ice cream. Both were devoured. Excellent choices. Then to top off the evening I had the vanilla cream éclair. Everything was great. The only critique I can have is that the crepes to way too long to come to the table.
Umi The Bar
Umi is definitely one of the best Japanese, non teppanyaki, restaurants I've been too. The food is very well prepared and plated. The drinks, Blossom Negroni, and a Maracuya Rum Cocktail were OK. Nothing to overally praise. But be very warned..... Do not go hungry and on a budget. Umi is one of the most expensive eateries I've ever been to. And we both left hungry. The service itself was very good, but extremely way toooooo fast. No time to allow my wife or I to savor the bites. We were done with all food ordered in less than 30 minutes after arrival. We later went to another eatery for additional food. The Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, and Hamachi hand rolls were the stars of the experience. The chicken wontos were fried perfectly with great taste. The Kimchi edamame had the perfect blend of spicy heat and mellow texture. The nigiris were all great. The music was too loud to have a decent conversation and the seating was very narrow.
Os Segredos Da Carne
Excellent option for lunch. It will not be a light lunch. Unlimited Salad bar and skewered grilled proteins. If you want a place to. Load up on protein, this is the place.
Calle Dragones
I made a Saturday evening 8:00 pm reservation for Calle Dragones over 10 days in advance, confirmed by both email and a follow-up phone call. This night out with my wife was meant to be a special treat, even without a specific occasion to celebrate. My wife looked stunning in a sexy dress, and I did my best to match her elegance. Upon arrival, we were led upstairs to the club and directed to a tiny table less than a meter from the bar, where the high-power blender created an unbearable amount of noise. This table was also as far from the stage as possible. I politely rejected that table, and after some reluctance from the hostess, we were taken to another table that was acceptable. We were given QR codes for the menus and quickly decided on our orders. The cocktails and the first appetizer arrived promptly, followed almost immediately by the second appetizer. The table was so small that the cocktails, water glasses, and appetizers could barely fit, making it difficult to enjoy both the food and the cabaret show. Before we had finished the appetizers, our main dishes arrived, all within less than 20 minutes of our initial order. We felt rushed, with no space for the main dishes as we still had the appetizers on the table. The servers managed to fit everything after we hurriedly finished the appetizers. While the short ribs and fish were good, the rushed service left us disappointed and frustrated. The service, initially attentive, deteriorated significantly when the Mayor of Panama City arrived with his entourage. For two and a half hours, we were completely ignored. Despite enjoying the singing, dancing, and band on stage, we were not approached for additional drinks, desserts, or any further service. The staff focused all their attention on the mayor and his group. After two hours of this neglect, I informed the manager about the lack of service, but by then it was too late to salvage the evening. The food was good, and the entertainment was enjoyable, but the service was poor, especially for non-celebrity patrons. If you're not a VIP, Calle Dragones might not be the best choice for a memorable night out.
